Frequently Asked Questions

About DATTs

What makes DATTs different from other tailors?
  • We hand-cut every pattern rather than relying on automated cutting. That means your garment is truly yours—no templates, no shortcuts.
  • We combine heritage fabrics like tartan, tweed, and velvet with an unapologetically alternative aesthetic. This is not Savile Row. It’s heritage, hacked.
Do you only make wedding suits?

Not at all. Many of our clients come to us for weddings, but DATTs is about clothes with a life beyond one day. We cut suits, jackets, trousers, and waistcoats for anyone who wants sharp tailoring with a darker edge.

The Process & Pricing

How does a made-to-measure order work?
  1. Consultation – We talk about your vision, style, and occasion.
  2. Measurements – Taken by hand to ensure accuracy.
  3. Design Choices – Cloth, lining, buttons, styling details.
  4. Fittings – Depending on the garment, one or two fittings to refine the cut.
  5. Final Delivery – Your garment, pressed and ready.
Do I need to book an appointment?

Your made-to-measure journey should be a special one, and we want to guide you through the complexities of modern tailoring as well as well can. Booking an appointment gives you and DATTs the opportunity to prepare, collect ideas and collect suggestions. You can book an initial virtual appointment or at our Edinburgh studio.

How long does it take?

Typical turnaround is 8–12 weeks. Rush orders may be possible depending on cloth chosen and time of year. Ask us and we’ll be honest about timelines. The one thing we can’t control is cloth availability with mills.
When thinking about timelines, also consider you’re availability – how easily can you get to our Edinburgh studio for fittings?
Also, when do you want your item to be ready and hung up in your wardrobe? Do you want to be collecting your tailoring on the day before your big day, or do you want some more breathing space?

Order today and expect delivery after Friday, 23rd January 2026.

How much do DATTs garments cost?

Our Price Guide gives indicative ranges. Final price depends on cloth and styling choices.

How is price determined?

Pricing is based on the complexity of the work, the type of cloth, and the time required to complete the project. We provide a detailed quote after a consultation, so there are no surprises.

Can I pay with a payment plan or in instalments?

We require a 50% deposit before beginning work on your garment to cover the cost of materials and ensure the smooth running of our process. The balance is due when you collect your tailoring. We do not currently offer payment plans or instalments.

Cloth & Style

Can I choose my own cloth?

Yes. We work with mills across Scotland, the UK and internationally, giving you access to thousands of cloths, including worsteds, tweeds, and velvets. If you have a particular tartan in mind, our Tartan Finder Tool can help.

What if I don’t know what I want?

That’s fine. Most people don’t come to DATTs with a fully-formed idea. If you have images, an event, a feeling, we’ll guide you through cloth and style options until we find something that feels right for you.

Can you make garments in vegan or non-wool fabrics?

We specialise in natural fibres like wool, they are sustainable but alternatives such as polyester cloth and synthetic alternatives to traditional horsehair canvas are sometimes possible. Let us know your requirements.

What’s the difference between made-to-measure and bespoke?

Many companies claim to offer bespoke because they give you a set of choices when choosing your tailoring. This is not bespoke tailoring! Made-to-measure starts with a standard pattern adjusted to your measurements. This is often done by a third party. True bespoke involves creating an entirely unique pattern from scratch, specifically for you.

Fit & Alterations

How many fittings will I need?

Most garments require 1-2 fittings, though complex pieces or challenging fits may need additional sessions and/or a toile fitting. We’ll discuss this during your initial consultation.

I’m going to lose weight for my big day. Can you make a suit for my new size?

This is always a tricky one. When you come for your initial consultation, we take about 30 measurements to build your unique tailoring around. Unless you know how much weight you are going to lose, where you will lose it from, and can guarantee your new shape, we can’t confidentially tailor to a body shape guess.

Can you alter garments not made by DATTs?

DATTs doesn’t specialise in alteration and repair tailoring. We generally focus on our own work, but may consider alterations on a case-by-case basis.

What happens if my needs change during the process?

We will always do our best to accommodate minor adjustments during the process. More significant changes – such as wanting to alter cloth, lining or fundamental structural changes – may incur additional charges, which we’ll discuss upfront.

Weddings & Groups

Do you make matching outfits for wedding parties?

Yes. We often create suits, jackets, or kilts for entire wedding parties, with options for coordinating fabrics and styles.

Do you hire kilts or suits?

No, we make clothes to be kept, lived in, and reworn.

Practicalities

Where is DATTs based?

We’re based in Edinburgh but serve clients internationally. Consultations can be in-person or virtual.

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes. We use trusted couriers for both UK and international deliveries.

Care & Longevity

How do I care for my tailored garments?

We’ll provide specific care advice with your order. In general: brush regularly, hang on a proper wooden hanger, use a wide shouldered hanger for jackets and store with attention to preventing moths, and dry-clean sparingly.

Can you create another outfit for me later?

Yes—we keep your measurements, style choices and patterns on file so you can reorder or commission new pieces easily. All you have to do is not change size! 😀

Brand & Ethos

Is DATTs inclusive?

Absolutely. It is built into the DATTs core values. We cut for all genders, all body types, and all identities. Tailoring is for anyone who wants to look like the sharpest version of themselves.

Why the name “Devil Among the Tailors”?

In a roundabout way it comes from the name of a Scottish reel. But the story behind it involves a British king, a poet, a rebirth of Highlandwear tailoring, and the rebranding of a whole country! , You can read about the story on our page about DATTs.
